FAQs

What is the $100 consultation fee?

This fee is to cover the initial design and estimate development for a custom piece, this does not apply to designs or products that are offered on the site. It may apply if modification to an existing design is requested.

If the project scope and cost are agreed upon, the 100 dollars will be applied to the project cost.

If it is decided to not go forward with the project, the 100 dollars covers the design, drawings and consultation time. The design and any drawings/sketches will remain the intellectual property of Xcuse 4 Tools.

What will custom work pricing look like?

Prior to starting work, a deposit covering the costs of the materials, finishes and required hardware (slides, drawer handles, hinges, etc...) will be required. Once the design has been agreed upon, changes are discouraged, Once the materials are purchased and work has begun, changes may add to overall project cost.

When do I pay for a custom project?

There is a $100 consultation fee due when I begin to design the project. Once the project and materials are agreed upon a deposit will be due to cover costs of materials. The consultation fee will be applied to this initial deposit.

The balance of the project fee will be due upon completion of the project.

What is the delivery cost?

Delivery is not part of the estimate and will be agreed upon a case by case basis.

What materials do you use?

I work with hardwoods and have a few local suppliers available. Typical available woods include Walnut, Cherry, Ash, Hickory, Mahogany and Oak. There are also some exotic woods available but these are sold at a premium and may substantially add to the cost of the overall project. Typical exotic woods would include species such as Padauk, Purple Heart, Lacewood.

If the customer has wood that they wish used in the project, this will require evaluation. No reclaimed wood will be used. It is desired to have kiln dried wood for all furniture projects. Air dried lumber will need to be inspected for proper moisture content and to ensure no infestation prior to use.

What type of finish is used?

Finishes are dependent on the use of the project but will be discussed as part of the design.
